Quality assurance of staff and facilities  

The premises at The Portland Hospital and at the Hertfordshire Clinic are licensed by the UK Care Quality Commission. Clinical staff at these hospitals are checked by the Disclosure & Barring Service before working with children. Staff undergo annual review and participate in continuing professional development. All practitioners are registered with their respective councils and are experienced in the management of childhood illness. Consultants part of Dr Ian Hay Ltd, like all doctors, are required to undertake ‘Good Medical Practice’ as laid down by the UK General Medical Council.

Data protection

The confidentiality of patient information is of the utmost importance and Dr Ian Hay Ltd adheres to guidance issued by the General Medical Council. Typically, your information may be shared with the Hospitals Dr Ian Hay Ltd works with, as well as your GP and other professionals involved in providing care. Dr Ian Hay Ltd is registered as a Data Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office, as prescribed by the Data Protection Act 1998. Any personal information you provide will be held in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act and used only to provide medical care. Dr Ian Hay Ltd takes all reasonable means to secure data, storing paper records in secure locations, and electronic records on encrypted devices. As a minimum, medical records of children have to be retained until the patient's 25th birthday (or 26th birthday if a young person was 17 at the conclusion of treatment) or 8 years after death. The Data Protection Act 1998 entitles you to request information held about you. You may be asked to provide additional documentation to confirm your identity, or if you are seeking to access personal information of another individual, proof of their consent or your legal right to receive their personal information.
